Congratulations to the Alexandria (VA) Little League Intermediate Division All Stars for winning the Virginia State Championship! The DSP staff is delighted that four of our 12 and 13 year old clients are participating on this team and gaining once in a lifetime experiences. Good luck Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22nd in the regionals in NC!
We are really happy for our clients’ success on the field. As they marched to the championship all four contributed mightily at the plate generating homers, multiple hit games, stolen bases, and truly impressive outings on the mound.
We are happy and a bit proud, but we are not surprised.
All four exemplify characteristics of top performers.
Serious-minded athletes of all ages can learn from their examples:
- Train All Year Round – These boys receive the support of their families and train in all four seasons. Hats off to their parents! Many athletes make the mistake of only training one or two seasons in advance of their sport-season. There are many problems associated with this ill-advised short-cut. One big one is that the human body degrades rapidly once resistance training ceases. The point is explained well in this video entitled Short Term DETRAINING. Athletes that don’t continue resistance training, in-season are inviting loss of performance and injury. We see it all the time at all levels.
2. Start Young (Now!) – Three of these boys have been with DSP for the past three years. They started when they were nine and ten. The other boy has been with DSP for over two years. Two or three years of consistent year-round training has allowed them to deliberately bring out the best of their bodies (and minds.) Ongoing training is especially important for building and maintaining desirable movement patterns in bodies that are growing rapidly. The boys are now more explosive, athletic, and healthy. Oh yes, they can play a little bit of ball too 😉 !
3. Healthy Arms Can Be Developed – These boys all throw with velocity that places them at the top decile of their peers. That’s nice but what we really love is that they do it repeatedly across a long season without pain. Right now their peers are hurting. These boys feel good. Young players should never be in pain when throwing. Unfortunately our culture has normalized pain. We reject that notion. Pain can be trained out of the game. Check out what we do with our baseball players: DSP Method for Baseball
Kettlebell Prowess Translates to Baseball – What these 12 and 13 year-olds can do with a kettlebell blows people’s minds on social media. Here is a video of a 12 year old performing a 28kg/62lb Kettlebell Swing.
These boys’ ability to put force in the ground and generate force through their hips/glutes is superior to much older players in high school in terms of technique and in some cases absolute strength and power! Here is a video of a young client performing a Kettlebell Snatch with the 62 pounder.
We have 12 and 13 year olds that throw 70 mph and remain healthy over long periods. Kettlebells are the secret weapon for developing baseball players: Kettlebells for Baseball
DNA is NOT the Limiting Factor for Most Athletes – These boys illustrate that ordinary DNA can be used to produce superior athletes. No offense boys but you are achieving by focusing your energy on things you can control. For these athletes, and the vast majority of the rest of us, attitude is much more important than what we were given in the double-helix. Clients like these boys that are serious-minded in the studio and train year-round become healthy superior athletes and game-performers over long periods of time.
If you are a baseball player age nine – 29 that wants to rise to the top, eliminate pain, and learn how to train the body and mind like a champion, please drop by the studio or drop us an email at DariusG65@gmail.com or scott@coachscottfox.com.
Our Fall Program will be announced soon.
We are proud of our All-Stars. Go get ‘em, boys!
All the Best!
